Meet the Director: Resa Zek

Fitness guru and media mogul, Resa Zek started Zek Fitness & Media in February 2017, after completing her Master Trainer Certificate at the Australian Institute of Fitness and rediscovering her love for all things health and fitness.

Zek Fitness and Media specialises in not only changing individuals lives by educating them on the importance of good nutrition and maintaining regular exercise, but also providing effective media & advertising content to health and fitness related companies all over Australia.

The Whole Story

Starting her first journo gig at the young age of 19, Resa now has 10+ years’ experience in the media industry – ranging from radio, print, digital, social media and advertising. In the past, she has worked for companies such as 101FM Local Network, Fairfax Radio Network, Macquarie Media, Bmag & Bmedia Solutions, South City Bulletin and Brijova Marketing among many others.

From 2016 to the beginning of 2017, Resa studied hard to complete her Master Trainer of Fitness Certificate with the Australian Institute of Fitness, all whilst working full-time as a Journalist at Bmag and then moving on to be the Editor at South City Bulletin magazine.

In 2017, she decided she really wanted to help people achieve their fitness goals and get into the health and fitness industry, so she started her own Personal Training and Bootcamp business around her local area. At the time, she was still working full-time as an Editor and with constant publishing deadlines, among other things, it was hard for her to really focus on her business - she could only manage a few clients after work and on weekends.

Towards the end of 2017, there were rumours of South City Bulletin magazine closing. Whilst most would be angry, upset or confused, Resa knew this was her time to make something of her own business. With the rumours eventually being true and only a few months left of work, Resa set out to get her business started and try to make a name for herself in the fitness world. However, with a passion for writing and media work in general, she still wanted to keep her media side of things up and running. There was only one thing to do…. mix the two and have the best of both worlds!

Without realising it, Resa had already been dipping her toes into the health and fitness media industry for over 2 years. She was a regular guest (every 2 weeks) on 96.5FM’s Live Well Be Well radio show and had been contributing to a range of magazines and online blogs. She was commissioned to write a 2000-word piece for Women’s Health and Fitness Magazine (Dec issue, 2017) and has been doing PR work and marketing for various companies.

When she finished up at South City Bulletin in October 2017, she sought an exciting job in the fitness industry one that would be flexible with hours, so she could run her own business as well. In November, she was hired as a trainer at F45 - Functional Training gym and has loved every minute of it!

Today, Resa works her shifts at F45, runs PTs and Bootcamps for her own clients throughout the week and freelances for a range of media companies. Whilst not strictly focused on just Health and Fitness, Resa provides companies with feature articles and media releases, blog content, advertising content, social media content and more. See media services page for more info.
